Handbags Galore: We Lulu Guinness
In 1989 Lulu Guinness designed her first handbag; a patent briefcase with a bright suede lining. This marked the beginning of her career as glamorous designer, with a strong celebrity following (fans include Madonna and Alexa Chung, to name but a few) and numerous international boutiques to boot. Lulu's signature girly, quirky, yet practical designs - including flowerpots, houses and her iconic lips bags - are instantly recognisable to a fashionistas eye and are coveted on red carpets and in cocktail bars the world over. What is your ultimate style commandment? Always wear heels, and don't forget your lipstick. Best way to look good on a budget... I love wearing vintage clothes, which don't always have to be expensive. A pair of heels and some red lipstick add instant glamour to any outfit. What makes or breaks an outfit? Accessories. Do you have a celebrity style crush? I love people who aren't afraid to express themselves individually - Agyness Deyn has great style. How would you describe your climb to the top? It is amazing how the company has grown, from starting out in my basement doing everything myself to 30 of us in the Head Office.... I feel very lucky to be doing something I love and to be here celebrating 20 years in the industry. There are some very exciting collaborations and projects in the pipeline, so it is a great time for the brand. If you could only carry two things in your handbag, what would they be? My diary and my mobile - one of my favourite new designs is my Mobile phone holder that is in the shape of a Red Telephone box so I can always find my mobile in the depths of my bag. How have you managed to balance such success with such glamour? In my business the two come hand in hand I think. What really is a girl's best friend? Depends on the girl - but I would say a sense of style and your trusty handbag carrying all your essentials in it. How to apply the perfect red lipstick?
