Is Harry Styles's New Single About Olivia Wilde?
Bear with us, we're still recovering from Harry Styles's new music video for his latest single ‘As It Was’, in which he does lots of dancing wearing various pillar box red outfits, including a Bianca Saunders woollen coat, and a scarlet, sequinned jumpsuit by Arturo Obegero. The guy literally never misses.
Earlier this year (23 March, to be exact), Harry confirmed that he'll be dropping his third solo album, titled Harry's House, on 20 May 2022. Naturally, this sent the internet into an absolute frenzy. Fortunately, Harry hasn't kept us waiting too long for a sneak peek.
After sharing the video for his new single, ‘As It Was’, Twitter was overcome with excitement and theories, hence why ‘Olivia Wilde’ (the director who happens to be Harry's girlfriend) was trending.
In the video, Harry sings, “Go home, get ahead, light-speed internet / I don’t wanna talk about the way that it was / Leave America, two kids follow her / I don’t wanna talk about who’s doin’ it first,” which many fans think is a direct reference to Olivia, who has two children from her previous relationship with Jason Sudeikis.
One fan tweeted, “Leave America, two kids, follow her.” The wedding bells? The kids in the beginning of As It Was? The upside down home album cover? Harry got the TEA, this has Olivia Wilde’s name written all over it [sic]," while another wrote, “harry styles did not try to hide the fact his new single is about olivia wilde at ALL [sic].”
There was also some speculation that one of Olivia's children may have voiced the opening line of the video: “Come on Harry, we wanna say goodnight to you!” If this is true, we might just expire from the cuteness.
One fan tweeted, “If the child at the beginning of As it was is one of Olivia Wilde’s children I will fight @Harry_Styles,” while another wrote, “Is this one of Olivia Wilde’s children talking to Harry at the top of this track because wow.”
Wow, indeed.
Harry Styles and Olivia Wilde have been dating since at least January 2021, when they were spotted holding hands at Jeffrey Azoff’s (Harry's agent) wedding. In December 2021, Olivia reflected on their relationship during an interview with Vogue saying:
“It’s obviously really tempting to correct a false narrative. But think what you realize is that when you’re really happy, it doesn’t matter what strangers think about you. All that matters to you is what’s real, and what you love, and who you love.”
