How to Watch the 2023 Gotham Awards

The 33rd annual Gotham Awards will be held on Nov. 27 at Cipriani Wall Street in New York City. The livestreamed event can be viewed on Variety’s YouTube account beginning at 3 p.m. PT/6 p.m. ET.

The metaphysical drama “All of Us Strangers,” which follows a gay man reconciling his past, led the nominations this year with four recognitions including best international feature. The dramas “Past Lives” and “A Thousand and One” were tied with three nominations each. The former follows a woman reuniting with her childhood best friend from Korea and contemplating what their relationship could’ve been; the latter follows a single mother kidnapping her son from the foster care system. Both titles were nominated for best feature alongside “Showing Up,” “Passages” and “Reality.”

The Gotham Awards are known for celebrating achievements in independent filmmaking, though this is the first year the Gotham Film and Media Institute removed a $35 million budget cap for films to qualify for nominations. Still, most nominees this year remain indie or arthouse films.

In addition to the nominees, there are several artists slated to be honored at the event with previously announced tributes. Bradley Cooper will be honored with the Cultural Icon and Creator Tribute for “Maestro,” and Ben Affleck will be honored with the Visionary Icon and Creator Tribute for “Air.” George C. Wolfe will receive the Icon and Creator Tribute for Social Justice for “Rustin” while Michael Mann will receive the Icon and Creator Tribute for Innovation. Finally, Greta Gerwig will be feted with the Global Icon and Creator Tribute for “Barbie.”
