Rebecca Adlington has opened up about her rumoured nose job for the first time.

There has been lots of speculation that the swimmer has gone under the knife after she emerged with a smaller looking nose in February.

However Rebecca has fuelled the rumours, telling the Daily Mail that she feels more confident in her appearance but that she isn't "happy" with how she looks.

Whilst she refused to confirm whether she had in fact had a nose job, Rebecca said,

"If somebody else wants to know [that], well tough luck... Loads of women have loads of things that they do - like a Kim Kardashian or whatever - but I just think if you open yourself up in that way, there's a lot more that happens."

However, she did say,

"I'm definitely happier with how I look now. But I wouldn't necessarily say happy. I think you still always see the same thing when you look in the mirror. "

She added, "A lot of people tell me you get more comfortable with yourself with age, and obviously I've still got a lot of growing up to do. But I will never have this figure that's big-boobed, tiny waist and curvaceous bum. I've got slightly bigger shoulders than some people and an average cup size. That's not going to change."

The swimmer has been subjected to abuse on Twitter about her appearance and she has previously opened up about hurtful this has been. Rebecca said that she blocked 4,000 people from the social media site after reading their comments.

"At first it definitely upset me. I'd burst into tears when I first started reading things but as I've grown up I've learnt to think, you know what, I don't know them, they've never seen me in real life, they've never spoken to me... I must have blocked about 4,000 people."

Today's saddest rumour? That Rebecca Adlington has had to have a nose job following years of abuse over her looks.

Britain's most sucessful swimmer, a two-time Olympic medallist, is rumoured to have gone to London's famous Harley Street for nose slimming surgery, and to remove a bump on her nose. Although the sportswoman is yet to confirm or deny the claims, the Sunday People reports she had the procedure earlier this month.

Rebecca has previously spoken about her insecurities, especially when she appeared on I'm A Celebrity Get Me Out Of Here and said "God, I'm not pretty. I've got a big nose" as she broke down in tears.

"That's what most of the negative comments on Twitter are about...my nose. People say 'Oh God you look like a dolphin', or 'I didn't realise they let whales into the Olympics, but at least you should be able to swim faster'.

"I'd have it straightened. But I couldn't float the idea of having a nose job before, because with swimming you only get two weeks off a year.

"Would I have it done now? I'd probably have it straightened. But it's really got to suit your face."

As well as the comments on Twitter, comedian Frankie Boyle came under fire when he said she had a "dolphin's face" in the run up to the London 2012 Olympics.
